Village (Gram Panchayat) Ramra Malla
of Block Gairsain in district Chamoli, Uttarakhand awarded as Nirmal Gram Purshkar
in year 2009 for achieving 100% open defecation free & clean environment.
The demographic & social composition of gram panchayat includes five
habitations i.e. Ramra Malla, Singhdhar, Mehargaun, Silkot & Aarudali
having 191 households with the population of 955. The Village is approachable 5
km by foot after the motor road.
In every success there is always
someone who makes it possible, so in this gram panchayat Ramra Malla Mr.
Hoshiyar Singh (Social Worker) has taken the responsibility to make his gram
panchayat as nirmal gram panchayat (NGP).
Hoshiyar has participated in the entire workshops conducted by the
SWAJAL project in Gairsain block and discussed about NGP. After collection of
all the information regarding TSC & NGP he made contact with the support organization
Shri Bhuvaneshwari Mahila Ashram (SBMA). Friends and community based organizations
(CBO's) of his village made inter personal communication with each and every
household for making sanitary latrines to achieve 100% open defecation free,
clean and healthy environment.
Villagers get familiarize about
TSC & NGP objectives it includes panchayat representatives, school teacher's,
ASHA worker, Mahila Mangal Dal , Anganwadi worker & school children. The
process off meetings & awareness programs continued regularly up to one
year & after that they achieved 100% individual household toilet construction
& received the incentive money for
BPL household from DPMU Chamoli.
After achieving 100% toilet
construction he took another initiative with the help of support organization (SBMA)
for making 100% utilization of toilet & there maintenance , domestic and personal hygiene,
environmental sanitation etc. so in
the year 2009 his Gram panchayat
received the Nirmal Gram Purshkar. After receiving the award by village, his
team did not stopped; now they are taking
initiative for solid & liquid waste management by constructing Public
Garbage Pit. Every house hold have his individual dust been & now they are
committed for healthy & clean environment in his village.
